I am so addicted to Angel Sanctuary.
I have used my Hari Raya money (of course not all of it) to rent out the comics. It is SO interesting! =)) I've started reading it since this Wed, and I'm now in the 11th book as of now.
Summary of Angel Sanctuary : Organic Angel Alexiel is one of the highest beings in existence, and has a younger twin brother, Inorganic Angel Rosiel. She is loved by both Uriel, the Angel of Judgement & Elemental Angel of Earth, and Lucifer, the Demon Lord of Hell (aka the devil). The story begins when God has "fallen asleep" to gather His powers. As mankind polluted and destroyed the Earth, the lands of Hell also began to weaken. Taking advantage of God's slumbering absence and the weakening of their enemies, the angels of heaven wage war on the Evil race, a group of demons who do not side with either God or Lucifer, wiping most of them out. In doing this, the angels fighting the war became corrupted. They commit vile crimes and murders under the name of God and righteousness. This deeply goes against Alexiel's morals. She feels that even the Evils are more righteous in their actions since they do not put up a charade of purity to cover their crimes. She joins the Evils' side of the war and declares an official revolt against God.
The war comes to a climax and an end when Alexiel fights against Rosiel, who has become insane & destructive, and obsessed with his beauty. Out of love and pity for her brother, instead of killing him, she seals him within the Earth, using a barrier of forbidden magic. However, in doing this, she used every ounce of her power and shatters her sword, Nanatsusaya ("Holy Sword of God"). After Alexiel is captured, she is sentenced to the most severe punishment given to a fallen angel: her body and soul are separated. Her body is frozen in an angel crystal; it is then locked away in the deepest depths of angel security. Her soul is sentenced to be reincarnated into a human mortal. In every incarnation, Alexiel is cursed to lead a miserable life, tragic love, and die a slow & very painful death. After which Alexiel is reincarnated again and begins the cycle anew. Her present and latest incarnation is a teenage boy named Setsuna Mudo.
My favourite characters are: Metatron, because he reminds me so much of Momiji [from Fruits Basket]! He's beyond adorable for words, a little whiny kid but still so innocent despite being an angel of very high rank; and Sara aka Gabriel the Elemental Angel of Water, because she's so sweet & kind, yet with a sharp tongue as well. What a nice combination!
The only setback to this manga is that the drawings can get pretty gruesome when it comes to the bloody wounds and fights, and it's rather for mature teens, if you catch my drift.
